Message from the Principal

Note from the Principal

Welcome to McIntosh County Middle School, home of the Buccaneers. We, the Buccaneer Family, are honored that you have chosen MCMS for your child’s middle school experience. I am blessed to serve as Principal of a school with a staff of highly qualified and dedicated individuals. All employees - custodians, café staff, bus drivers, technology specialists, administrative assistants, nurses, teachers, paraprofessionals, and leadership team – appreciate the vital role they play in your child’s academic career.

McIntosh County offers challenging academic courses, skillful career pathways, and energetic athletic opportunities. Academically, McIntosh County Middle School's goal is to provide every single student with the highest quality educational programs. We feel every student needs a solid academic foundation. Our variety of career courses not only provides technical skills to prepare students for secondary educational ventures but also offers real world applications to develop students’ critical thinking and problem solving abilities. McIntosh County's athletic program is an integral part of school life. Included are a wide range of sports, and all students who are physically able are encouraged to participate in some form of activity.

The instructors at MCMS are dedicated to your child’s educational success. Approximately 65% of the teachers have advanced degrees and/or endorsements. Teachers have a genuine commitment to the education of youth and are actively involved in professional learning opportunities. New knowledge and skills are transferred to the learning environment in order to benefit the students.

McIntosh County School System’s vision statement reads, “Our vision is to be a school system that ensures an excellent and equitable education for our students, all of whom will graduate, be lifelong learners, and be successful citizens.” At McIntosh County Middle School, we not only strive to prepare all students for high school and graduation but we also venture to prepare our pupils for future careers and encourage learning for a lifetime. In addition to teaching rigorous academic standards, we model characteristics essential for success in life.

Anchored in Excellence” is our school-wide theme. Vincent Lombardi stated that “The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.” It does not matter what career a student chooses, what club, what activity – they should strive for excellence in all that they do.

McIntosh County Middle School’s goals for 2016-2017 are to improve students’:

· Writing skills in all content areas and in preparation for constructive response portion of the state assessment.

· Vocabulary skills in all content areas with a focus on science, social studies, and testing terms.

· Attendance rates because students achieve more when they are present.

To meet these goals, we need the support of you – our parents. You are the most important factor in your child’s academic success. We are here to assist in any way to ensure academic success for our students. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teachers, guidance counselor, or administrator if we can help. We invite you to become involved in your child’s education – visit the school, volunteer at the school, attend extracurricular events. We are partners with you in your child’s educational journey.

Thank you for being a member of the Buccaneer Family. I am honored to serve you and the McIntosh County community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Melissa H. Williams
